Ironic that I just posted "blinded by busy" a week or so ago, and then ended up going to the wake of the wife of a friend. He and his wife were getting close to retirement, and he had planned a MONTH long vacation with her for this year as their last child was exiting college. She felt slightly ill, went to the emergency and died 3 days later from something called septis. We don't get to chose our time to go. Regardless if you are young or old, look around and make sure you're spending the time you have wisely. Take a Step Back take a step back and look at your life do you know where you want to be? is this where it's at?
it all goes so quickly each year passing faster take the time to revel in life's little laughters
some go all too early we miss them, we mourn but we keep with us memories to help our sojourn
I take from this a lesson to live more each day so tomorrow I can smile as I look back on yesterday

This is so very true. You can't pick and choose your time to go...it just happens. All you can do is keep on living from one day to the next as best as you can. Live each moment as if it would be your very last.
I'm very sorry for your loss of a friend. I wish you and her family nothing but the best.
This poem and the obvious emotions behind it were well expressed. This one holds a special place in my heart that way I can remember when life seems to get difficult, I can stop and "take a step back".

I am very sorry for your loss, Poet. You have rendered a thoughtful piece that should make us all take a step back. Tragically beautiful.

Lucid, piercing message and a jolt to self: Be happy, love others, have no regrets. Well said, PoetOfSerendipity.

Hi guys.. on a positive note, I saw this guy again at his retirement party, and he's met someone, and it looks like it's love again. Life IS good.. if you give it a chance. Mike

Mike - good news that last - and a great poem for any stage of life. Glad you stopped back. Elle and Ken are here once in awhile too.
