When the road is all you have and your only goal in life is to find the courage to go on put one more foot before the other
when all the secrets are revealed and the next bend in the road leads to the next bend in the road
when the gates and doors are shut and the dog strains on the leash to tear your unwelcome flesh from your weary bones
when there’s no one waiting for you wherever it was you started out and no one bats an eyelash when your name is mentioned in idle conversation
and should you leave the road and wander into the wood never to come back out never to be seen again
it would not cause even a tiny ripple to rise and fall on the smallest pond on the face of this earth
what will be the tiny nugget of faith the grain of truth that only you possess that will save you from tottering on the brink of dark despair in your final lonely moments
is it this that you have not wavered that in remaining true to the road you have remained true to yourself and to hell with everyone else

Amen. Very true & well-stated. In the end, all that matters is that we are right with our maker and right with ourselves.

If nothing else then definitely that. I think you have found life's bottom line.
