They put the baby in the field, Cold and quiet-like, Dust howls by, The sands grind our teeth, Only the bones fall slowly, Time over the river now gone, Somewhere beyond Eden, Iron horses and hawks fallen, Tears on our letters, The pen at our worried necks, Give us the quiet lanterns, Crying behind flapping cotton, Gifted ink and no lies whispered, Give us the voices of home, Send away the cold angry angels, Give us dear loving friends, And not some dust deviled sphinx riddle, Born to hide the shame.

This resonates. These 3 lines especially speak to me:
Gifted ink and no lies whispered, Give us the voices of home, Send away the cold angry angels,
Well spoken and posing such a critical question. Great job on such a sad and yet controversial subject. It is my belief that we have never had any business there-- but then again, I also believe that 'business' is THE very reason we are there. Bad economics and desperation make for poor political decisions.
Well-done.

'Elle, I couldn't agree with you more. This is one of several I've donated to www.poetsagainstthewar.org. I think one more I did not too long ago you might appreciate. I'll post it here shortly. Thank you... Dan

I bookmarked the Poetsagainstwar site...thank you for sharing-- I have found that this view in particular is condemned by many that are confused about the differences between patriotism and anti-Americanism. I am as PRO-American as it gets, but that doesn't mean agreeing with what I whole-heartedly believe to be bad and critically important decisions made on all of our behalf by a government that is supposed to be representing us. There are a whole lot of people out there that feel the same.
