In honor of my taking American Constitutional Law this month (and because my teacher/mentor/academic advisor suggested it) this week's challenge has to do with the Bill of Rights (the first ten amendments of the US Constitution). Here is a list of phrases from the Bill of Rights..... freedom of speech unreasonable searches and seizures due process of law speedy and public trial cruel and unusual punishments YOUR CHALLENGE FOR THIS WEEK: Write at least one poem using as many of the phrases above as you can. Your poem can be any style/form and deal with whatever subject you like. Slight variations in the phrases are okay ('cruel and unusual punishment' instead of 'cruel and unusual punishments'). Please post all your works in this forum as new threads and feel free to comment on everyone else's pieces. I can't wait to see what you all come up with. If you have an idea for a future challenge I'd love to hear it! Private message me or email me at poeticrainbows@yahoo.com with your feedback and suggestions.

LAST LADY CHIPPEWA
she sits in her darken corner thinking about due process of law what does it all really mean would it effect the life of a Chippewa
she can only remember the recent past cruel and unusual punishments for people just trying to live leather bound and hell bent
they made their way across the land never thinking about freedom of speech her father was a handsome warrior living the words he would sometimes preach
she lived through all the anger lived over the speedy and public trial hateful men from town showed up last night it was her time to walk the death mile
she held her head high as she took each step hoping it would all be over soon placing the rope around her neck she shed not a tear swinging under a full moon

Hawkspoet, we've spent a little time discussing how horribly Native Americans have been treated in this country during my class (American Constitutional Law). This piece illustrates those atrocities with a wonderful flow and clear language. WELL DONE!!!!!!!

well being of Native American blood I just felt that I would express the way I feel about just how these people were treated and I feel that it was never fair......
I am not sure that this would be a piece that I feel is one of my better works...... you know how I am with a challenge ........ I just have to jump right in head first...... and pray that there is no bottom that will cause me to break my neck......... as always it was a pleasure to work with your words and thoughts...... I am going into the archives to see what other poems are lurking in my brain.......
