With each step you take that leads away from me into a life of change where I no longer fit
I know the image of me you store somewhere inside must fade and shrink with time no longer reflect the truth.
I accept this reality. Yet still No one wants to be forgotten.
I still pull up your image the one with the shining smile patch the dog-eared corners smooth the cracks and wrinkles nudge it till it’s level once more on the wall of my memories more often than I care to confess.
And I dare to imagine that somewhere, wherever you are you keep my image intact despite the ravages of time make sure the tack is holding so my image won’t slide down the wall into oblivion

This is wonderfully reflective and in-the-moment all at once. Some people touch us for just a day, others a lifetime.. no matter the time between contact. Sometimes the initial impression remains forever.
A beautiful write, Ken.
