I know you’re thinking of me always. I feel your presence in my mind as I too recall our times together. We are joined in spirit, if not in flesh and blood.
Perhaps our love is pure for this, that we never stayed together long enough to see it die. It would have an orphan wasting away between us, that neither of us knew how to keep alive.
Years pass and the errant flights of sleek airplanes reunite us at random and unforeseen intervals, so we can still savor the sweetness of our eternal love affair.
A love affair we don’t want to die, but that we can’t possibly revive.

This is so bittersweet.
The second verse is my favorite. The lines "It would have an orphan / wasting away between us" were especially striking for me.
