So let's have a photo contest with Summer as the theme. No rules, except it should be your shot. If you post a picture with each comment, that would really be way cool. Here's my entry: Lonesome BeachKen

It looks like many places on the shores of the Great Lakes. Beautiful and haunting. Is this the Atlantic?
Dan
Dan;
It's taken in Prince Edward Island, looking out on the Northumberland Strait (Atlantic Canada.)We spend a week there every year camping and swimming.

Thanks, 'Elle - you should see the full-size version. I took it with an old 35mm panoramic camera (before the camera died) and scanned it at 900dpi. Too big for posting here as it is too difficult to size images via code in here. (Not to mention the server storasge it'd take up on my host.)

Starfish I met as I went a-walking on the tidal flats this past weekend. I took only his likeness, didn't touch him otherwise. Ken

Dig that crazy starfish! And yeah, that's me with the sax. I wasn't using any effects or filters, either - the green tint just happened on its own. I liked it so I left it be. Now check out mine and Saren's hike through the Morton Arboretum yesterday - in 96 degree heat, every bit of shade was perfectly welcome. It can't get much more summer than this. Sadly, I ran out of battery for the digital, as there were two other shots that would have been totally stunning. Next time! The pedometer read over 8,000 steps after, we're figuring we did four miles, and we skipped the furthest trail loop out - we'll save that for another trip. Afterwards, we went to the cafe and gift shop - walnut, cranbery, apple, and goat cheese salads, spinach & artichoke heart kishe (spl?) and fruit salad with green tea. I also picked up a huge jar of Linden honey made at the arboretum, and a beeswax luminary with real tree leaves embedded in it and a beeswax tea light candle for later this fall. They have the coolest stuff in the gift shop - books on local wildlife and plants, audio, video, local arts and crafts. Taken 08/01/2007.

I can sure tell it was really hot that day. We had the same heat wave here in New Brunswick. There are lots of yellow flowers in the first batch, really nice, Dan. I've been taking sunset shots. Here are a few of my favorites so far: taken from my canoe on the river in Fredericton at our campground: I am really enjoying my camera this summer. I sometimes take so many shots that I always carry a couple of spare batteries.

Nice work, Ken. I'm a fan of sunsets myself. I particularly like the first and last shots you got here. BTW: I'm now carrying 14 batteries. No kidding - I have enough memory for about 80 shots, maybe a few more. That's next to upgrade. Digital is great for not having to pay to develop all those pics - but for some I really miss 35mm. Still, at 4mp, the camera turns out good enough quality for 8x10. I have to size it down by 2/3 to get it right for posting here.

I am sure enjoying the gorgeous pictures!! WOW, where to begin... your hike looks like stunning and lush! So green & beautiful, doesn't get any more wonderful than being in the center of nature!! Ken, OMG!!! Those are some phenomenal shots! In the first one, the cloud looks like it has a silver lining with the sun behind it, breath- taking! Thanks for posting these, I hope you continue to do so. Ken, I'd really like you to keep this going all of the time, new contests for the entire year. I adore being able to come and see these gorgeous pictures & am hoping for different seasons, too... I'll contribute my own, too when I can! It's been a crazy busy summer so far! Terrific photography guys!

Sounds like a plan, Elle! Linda and I are going camping for two weeks on Prince Edward Island, so I'll be off the grid till then. But I should have lots of new shots to share when I get back. I'm planning on sunset shots over the ocean every night! I'll invite my muse along too, but she's so fickle. I'm sure Dan has lots of great shots to share, too. I post my images on Flicker for free and then just plug the url in here. here's one more I took from my canoe two sunsets ago: Until then, enjoy August! It's 95 F here today, can't wait to get to the seashore! Ken
