I was reminded that one of my favorite groups of all time is the Moody Blues... and as I think back to what I liked.. it was a lot of poetry and prose in their lyrics... ...this is the lyric that came to mind Lyric: Moody Blues - Late Lament [Artist Lyrics] Album: Days Of Future Past
Breathe deep the gathering gloom, Watch lights fade from every room. Bedsitter people look back and lament, Another day's useless energy spent. Impassioned lovers wrestle as one, Lonely man cries for love and has none. New mother picks up and suckles her son, Senior citizens wish they were young.
Cold hearted orb that rules the night, Removes the colours from our sight. Red is grey and yellow white, But we decide which is right. And which is an illusion.

So many great songs are simply poems to a melody. I love the Moody Blues. My Dad was a drummer. This is a beautiful lyric. Think of the band Cream... whom used an avante-garde ghost-writer Poet for many of their songs, one I can think of in particular. Also, Bob Dylan. and on and on... Stevie Nicks is a Poet. All of her songs made their start in her journals. Jewel is a Poet. Sting is a Poet. Yes, Poetry is all around us and has been for ages. I'll bet you think of many more songs that had to have been poems. Thanks for posting and reminding us that there are lots of ways to soak in culture and arts!
