Hello all,
I am embarking on a new life journey. I'm slowly shaping myself into the person i long to be. It's been a rough road thus far, but i'm getting there and i'm holding strong.
I am getting my very first tattoo soon. It is going to be a beautiful lotus flower on the small of my back. (in pinks and whites and greys) I am still searching for something meaningful to add to it. Like lyrics or a line of poetry that describes life/learning lessons/new dawn/ renewal type of thing. If anyone would have any ideas that they'd like to share or imputs I would love to hear from you all! I need help!! lol
best wishes to all, ~solace~

Solace,
Don't look too hard for the perfect lyric. If there is a perfect lyric, it will come to you of its own will. Don't be rushed into anything less than perfect.
Maybe there is no lyric needed. The image on its own can convey a deeper, more powerful meaning than just abcdef. A word or phrase might even limit the message you seek to express.
Finally, I read there is a new ink coming on the market which is less intrusive, just as colorfast, and easier to remove than the usual ink. Make sure you research this angle. I don't have the newspaper I read this in any more, it's gone out with the recycling.
Good luck with your tat, and I hope your journey takes you safely where you want to go.
Ken

Hi Solace... been there.. STILL there.
I have part of a song as my signiture on another forum.. and I love the message.
"I hope you dance" ??
You could also leave that part blank for now.
* I Hope You Dance * LeeAnn Womack
I hope you never lose your sense of wonder You get your fill to eat But always keep that hunger May you never take one single breath for granted God forbid love ever leave you empty handed I hope you still feel small When you stand beside the ocean Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens Promise me that you'll give fate a fighting chance And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance I hope you dance I hope you dance
I hope you never fear those mountains in the distance Never settle for the path of least resistance Living might mean taking chances But they're worth taking Lovin' might be a mistake But it's worth making Don't let some hell bent heart Leave you bitter When you come close to selling out Reconsider Give the heavens above More than just a passing glance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance I hope you dance (Time is a wheel in constant motion always) I hope you dance (Rolling us along) I hope you dance (Tell me who) I hope you dance (Wants to look back on their years and wonder) (Where those years have gone)
I hope you still feel small When you stand beside the ocean Whenever one door closes, I hope one more opens Promise me that you'll give faith a fighting chance
And when you get the choice to sit it out or dance Dance I hope you dance I hope you dance (Time is a wheel in constant motion always) I hope you dance (Rolling us along) I hope you dance (Tell me who) (Wants to look back on their years and wonder) I hope you dance (Where those years have gone)

I also love the word "Serendipity" ....maybe because I love the movie.
btw.. I hope as you are shaping yourself into who you want to be, you realize that you're already beautiful.

hey,
i like the idea...thought about it too once but never found the courage to really do it ;-)
i love the lotus image and ken might be right that especially as the lotus has such deep symbology and meaning in itself a phrase isn´t a must...i think it would have the advantage that you could interpret it´s meaning for you more freely...especially as i think that through the years every experience let´s us grow and yes change in some way too...
well i was thinking abaut a quote that i like very much though... it´s from Lord of the Rings by Tolkien
“All that is gold does not glitter, not all those who wander are lost; the old that is strong does not wither, deep roots are not reached by the frost. From the ashes a fire shall be woken, a light from the shadows shall spring; renenwed shall be blade that was broken, the crownless again shall be king.”
it´s long but i think one could also just choose a single line that appeals....i especially like "not all those who wander are lost" and i think i would fit to the image of the lotus as it grows out of the mud to come to it´s blosson ;-)
another thing that i considered when i was thinking about getting a tattoo was that i might more like to have it not in a language everyone could read so easily...might be a part of my scorpio attitude as i don´t know if i would want everyone to be able to just read those personally words from my body (well but then i don´t know where you want it ;-) ) i was thinking about some middle egyptian or coptic maybe...but then as it´s what i study it´s also a thing of personalizing it for me...
anyway i don´t know if anyone could really give advise as it is something very personal but i hope you find the right words...

Thanks for the feedback everybody! I'm pretty much set on the lotus flower, so that will most likely be what I end up getting. I'm not sure when I'm going to plan on getting the tattoo but it'll most likely be within the next month or so. I'll let you all know how it goes! Thanks again, ~Solace~

"Watching life bloom IS living." or "Unfolding blossom" - Basically referring to the fact that it's always the journey, with its anticipation, hopes, dreams, and desires that make up life, whereas the actual arrival is only just a moment in between journeys and has been known to be anticlimactic at times.
Sounds like it will be quite beautiful. I hope it goes well and turns out just as you hope.

I always thought "Lotus Blossom" would be a great name for a band! I love that you are aspiring to begin again, reinvent, learn... I relate to that. You're a gem, solace Take a pic of the tat to show us!!

Hey all, This past saturday, I got my first tattoo. Sadly it is not the lotus flower that I had previously anticipated on getting...that will come at a later date (which will most likely be over summer). Instead, I got a tattoo on my right foot. I had been warned that it's one of the most painful spots to get one....but I did just fine with it! I got a shooting star design with 4 stars representing me, my mom, my dad, and my brother. Here's a pic of it below :

It's awesome!! I was here a few days ago, got interrupted (kiddos) & had to abrubtly end my session before being able to let you know that this is really cool! I love the symbolism of your family, as each contributes a bit to us. Thinking about your tattoo, it makes me think of my night last night, as I attended a banquet for my little sister's college academic achievements. She was chosen along with only 12 others as a founders' scholar. Pretty neat... anyway, as a proud sister, I got all teary-eyed when she accepted her award, nominated by her art teacher. She thanked her family, and she added that each of us had made a contribution to her achievements via emotional support, encouragement, etc. Your stars remind me of my own family tonight, because it touched me a lot for her to even think that way. Your stars are beautiful~ fitting for the soulful star you are here at MM!
