Rock N' Roll Communion...There's a place like no other,
Every August 15th it starts to glow with candles,
By the next morning the tears of tens of thousands have watered the lawn,
And I hear His bride and daughter peek from the second-story windows every time.
I can't forget the day I was hired twenty years ago,
Because those candles were burning that morning.
When I was really little,
I used to wish he was my Daddy,
All the cool cars and pretty gals,
And oh,
MAN could that guy sing,
My little brother and sister and I,
Glued to the TV,
We had to cover our eyes for the mushy stuff,
But Blue Hawaii was engrained in my soul.
Who else ever had a number one album AND single,
Twenty-five years after they died?
We had a party that very year,
An altar by the front door with candles all aglow,
Fried and quartered peanut-butter and banana sandwiches,
But you didn't have to genuflect,
Just take a bite of Rock-N-Roll Communion,
Tell me it won't make you shake,
Rattle and roll.
Maybe nothing lasts forever,
But I bet they'll be holding teddy bears still,
A thousand years of sweet music from now.
