I am grooving to Alisha Keyes extended double discs(songs in A minor and many versions of "Falling") ----it's incredible!
I am also delving further into Jewel's "Hands" cd--- another really awesome lyrical and musical gem. The title song in particular is inspiring.
What's everyone listening to in the New Year?
I want the new cd from Cold Play featuring Michael Stipes ... I am a big Coldplay fan-- and REM Talk about enchanting music!!

oh yeah music :-) what would i do without it during the boring hours in train lol
well currently i have a wild mix on mp3 player...something fitting any mood that may overcome me at uni
have lots of punkrock on it..it´s perfect to get awake and into a good mood at 6 am...getting your spirit and body working when all you wish is to sleep when you look out into darkness being in the train...
but then i too have Shakiras new album...wonderful passionate rhythms with the strong voice of hers...
some Alanis...some Sinead...Heather Nova with her increadible beautiful new album (and the ever so wonderful cover of "Wicked Game") and some Katie Melua...

I LOVE Alanis! Her music is SO REAL. I especially love and relate to her "Hands Unclean" album... powerful music. Sinead has such a gorgeous voice and presence... I have never heard Heather Nova or Katie Melua- but I am making a point to change that thanks to your pursuasions, thank you Speaking of Train, I love the band Train, I saw them a long time ago at the House of Blues in Chicago... real talent in those guys. Dido is another voice I can't get enough of. Speaking of talent... are any of our members from Australia? Queen Stevie (Nicks) has a 2006 tour scheduled there.

I've got pretty mainstream tastes.. but I'll listen to almost anything. Country is currently my favorite.

Hmm...I've been listening to mostly radio lately - I do a lot of talk radio during the day, and a lot of time online reading this or that. Yet on the way to work at night, I try to keep it light and uplifting, so I either listen to jazz on Chicago NPR, because they have a lot of great Chicago tenor saxophone players featured, or I listen to Delilah on the radio at WLIT. ( www.delilah.com ) Her show features lots of sappy love songs from all eras and several genres, and she has people call in all the time and tell their story. Most are about love, just breaking up, or how wonderful their new or long term partner is. Those are fairly evenly split. There are also many inspirational stories, how friends or relatives or even strangers have done wonderful things for the callers or someone they care about. For each caller, Delilah picks a song from her library that fits the caller's situation. It's a very uplifting show, and I think it's very important to have as much of that feeding into your head as you do the things that need attention but are stressful, so you have balance. As for music, of course I am a fan of Elvis forever, since I was three years old or so. I listen to his Ultimate Gospel CD on Sundays and it is very nostalgic for me. I also like Joss Stone's Soul Sessions CD, Nora Jones's first CD, and lots of other works, ranging from classic rock to blues, jazz, and country. I also picked up some wonderful Hawaiian music while I was out there in January - both traditional chant and more modern songs in Hawaiian and English. Great stuff there - much of it gently at peace with the world around the artist. The way I see it, we live at a point in history that is more musically rich than ever before, and all music is to be treasured, so I hate to limit the type of music I listen to. we are really, really blessed to have recording technology make music so wonderfully available. Think about what it was like a hundred and fifty years ago. Once Elvis was gone, you could only have heard someone else playing or singing his songs, you would never be able to hear that incredibly rich voice again. No one younger than when he passed would ever be able to relate to what you'd heard. The same with any artist. I tell my son and nieces and nephews this and remind them every chance I get that they have a world of music available that never really was before the early 1900's and they should take advantage of it. Great subject here. Dan

Yes.... Daemona... Stevie is the Queen to me. I've been listening to her since I was a child. My Dad listened to Fleetwood Mac- he liked the original band, too before Lindsay b & Stevie were in it. but, he loved the sound of the new Mac, too. Dan, Elvis sure is to be admired- even the Beatles admit what a huge influence he was to them. and Ken: the Blues rock! Do you know who Susan Tedesci is? I met her several years ago when I was in radio-- a very cool chic! and what pipes!! I love Blues music- Janis Joplin is still my favorite Blues crooner. I listen to her at least once a day. "Summertime" is one of my all-time fave songs. I love all blues music. Really, I love all good music. Speaking of long drives on the train, Daemona.... the band Train is great, too. I saw them at the House of Blues in Chicago before they got big-- they opened for the Neville Brothers, speaking of more great crooners.

Right now I am listening to Nora Jones, Natalie Imbruglia and Eric Clapton. My opportunities are lesser since having the baby to jam, so the car is my main stage... lol. The kiddos go right to sleep, even when Mom's singing at top of her lungs. People around always look and giggle... especially at stoplights... I don't care, just keep on singing!
Of course, Janis is always in the car on stand-by.
