Okay, Poets! What I would like is whenever you think of it, pop into this thread and add a new detail or update about yourself each time, so that new visitors get a real feel for the People and Poets we are here at Mystic Muse! And as always, pass the word along about us to anyone you know that might be interested in becoming a part of our Mystic Muse community~

I'll start...
My name is Rachelle (elle) and I created Mystic Muse back in 2003 as an outlet for my own writings & artwork and those of my friends. Prior to that, I was an online Editor, Moderator, Contributor and Administrator to several larger Poetry communities. I didn't like the way some boards operated and allowed malicious kinds of people to bully and misuse the boards as well as other conflicts so I decided to walk away from doing all of this stuff for other boards and I created my own sanctuary here at Mystic Muse and brought many dear Poet friends here with me. That is the story of this community, our mission is to always maintain a safe and free environment for Poets to feel at home in both sharing their works and thoughts with other Artists. I am always open to suggestions and input and I rely on many other awesome Artists here to keep this board a lively, fun place to express. We are a close-knit group who many have been writing and sharing together for years. We love new people to come in and enjoy the comeraderie as we do. So WELCOME to our community, grab a cup of coffee and ENJOY the wonderful poetry and artwork!

Wow Elle...it's hard to believe that I first came across this poetry forum 3 years ago!! Time has truly flown by!! Like you said Elle, I too previously was on other poetry forums on the net, but I did not feel like my work or my participation as an artist and poet was appreciated in any way. All i ever gave was encouragement and constructive criticism...and all I ever got in return was meaness and way too harsh judgements. The aim is to have fun and express ourselves! Why take it so seriously and hurt one another? When I finally arrived at Mystic Muse, I instantly felt welcomed, be-friended and cherished as a fellow poet. Thanks Elle for making this community so pleasant! I wouldn't trade it for the world! And thank you everyone for being my friends. I'm still a young woman working my way through life as best I can. Here I can express myself and feelings in a safe, comforting way. I let it all out here and am happy to do it. It helps me grow and learn. Thanks again! ~~Solace

I was never a poet before 3 years ago. The occasional limeric or quick rhyming poem, but never a poet.
Some things changed in my life that caused me to begin a long period of introspection, which was not at all a bad thing, because it helped me rediscover myself. Poetry has been a tremendous outlet for me, and as expressed before (by my twin sis Solace..LOL), the people here are WONDERFUL and very supportive.
Poetry is ohhhh so personal to most... so to have a place to share your inner thoughts and dreams without judgement is awesome.

Hello all...
I hope you guys are all doing well and are getting ready for the upcoming holiday. I'm trying desperately to get into the holiday spirit but it is really hard to do so right now at this point in my life. I can honestly say that right now I am having the most difficult struggle and it is so upsetting. Healthwise I am not doing good (have had ovarian cysts), stress is not helping and finacially i am really struggling. I am a young woman making it through her final years of college and it is not easy at all let me tell you. I only am able to work 2 days a week at as a cashier and am a full-time student. It's stressful. I only rake in enough cash to pay for my gas and phone bill, and half my car insurance...i'm back living with my parents until i can get my life together....it's so hard. So I have all that going on, and then this evening when I was about a block from home I got pulled over by a cop and was given a ticket for a red light violation....(I thought it was still yellow but I must not have been fully paying attention) I am just at my ultimate of lows and I honestly don't know what to do. It's right around christmas time and I have no money to even get my boyfriend whom I love very much a single christmas gift. That's all I am worried about at this moment...isn't that ridiculous? I wasn't crying about the ticket and the fact that it was my first one, I was crying about how I wouldn't have enough money to get my boyfriend a gift this year. Gosh it's so funny how quickly life can just hit you like a ton of bricks. And what's even more funny is that in my crying desperation, I thought of all of you guys here at mystic muse..my fellow poets and friends for love and support. It's nice just knowing you all are here. Thanks for being around and posting poetry that helps ease my mind at least for a little while.
Take care. Hope you all are doing MUCH better than I. And if you aren't....I can totally relate and understand! Things will look up eventually...I still have a little bit of hope left.

Oh, honey!! I am SO SORRY! I have to say, I have been there, am still there, in ways that I can completely understand your not being in the holiday spirit... but, we have to remember what the Holiday is about, love, peace, enchantment. Maybe you could bake your sweetie something sweet, like fudge brownies or decorated cookies? Or make him a special dinner? I know just having the love of someone special is the best gift of all! Keep your eye on the pie in the sky, you are almost through school and it will all be worth the sacrifices it took to get there. Nothing worth doing comes easy. Please don't cry, I can't bear the thought of it.
Big Christmas (((hugs))) Sending some good vibes your way!!

Solace! I just heard an idea that I thought you could use... To write a "Top Ten" List, that is Your Ten Favorite Things about the person as a gift... maybe on some pretty paper .. I thought it was a neat gift idea that was straight from the heart... Hope you are feeling better, lady!

I'm glad you thought of us, but hey, I'm your brother after all, right?? LOL Seriously... we are like twins (well, except for a SLIGHT age difference).
I expect your boyfriend knows your financial situation? I like Elle's idea of a 10 things list.. as a poet, that could be REALLY special. Or maybe a special picnic.. in the snow.. with a bottle of wine (assuming you have snow).. who knows.. if he's worth it, he knows you like we do and knows that life is about a LOT more than monetary gifts.
Solace.. wow.. it's probably been about 3 years now we've been here.. maybe a bit longer? ...and one thing I've learned is that a poets work tells a lot about the person... and you have an AWESOME soul girl, and more strength than you think.
I worked my way through school too (..and lived at my parents). I basically had one night a week I could go out, so I know what kind of stress you're under... heck, when I took my last final, I THREW my books off the bridge between the east campus and the west campus and watched them sail 100's of feet down to the Mississippi River... ahh.. that was a good feeling. YOU will get that feeling too.. YOU CAN DO IT!
Frustrating, overwhelming, yep.. felt it all. If you EVER need to talk.. contact me, k?
Your twin bro...

Actually, I think it's going on four years now with '08 coming up. Wow. I hadn't really thought about it. I knew 'Elle on one of those other poetry boards, and I knew we shared common ground in a lot of ways - so when I heard she started a new board, of course I became a loyal contributor and member. I enjoy the company 'round here immensely. Solace - the finances and the traffic ticket are really minor and temporary - he better love you regardless of your gift or he needs an upside the headwise! LOL I think 'Elle is on a good track with that top ten list, though. I know these things dont FEEL minor - I'm not making little of them in your immediate life, but they are very temporary - you stick with that schooling and you'll be amazed at some of the doors that open up for you when you have it in black-n-white that you can do something complicated well and from start to finish. One of the cool things I do for friends and loved ones at special or tough times in their lives is to write a poem that describes them, and put it on a background that suits them from an old computer printing program I have called Sierra Print Artist - and then I put it in a frame for them to keep. Osco drug stores have nice ones pretty inexpensively and so does Wally World - er - Walmart. People respond well to things that are about themselves, and something like this really says they're not only important to you, but that you "get" them in at least some ways. The health issue, I am sending some prayers your way. I would like to suggest to you also that visualization techniques and affirmations can also help the body heal itself - the subconscious is a powerful thing, especially if you know how to get along with it well. That one is a bit tougher to deal with on many levels. I'm glad I stumbled on this forum tonight. I like the idea of getting to know you all outside the poetry realm a bit better. This is really a good time of year for it! Me, my son just rode into town on the Greyhound, he lives seven hours away - he's 17 now and will be 18 in spring. Later today, we are traveling up to the Illinois-Wisconsin state line. My home town is just the other side of it, and my family has an annual Christmas dinner just on the Illinois side in the little town where my youngest sister lives. We rent a little cabin from the town community center for the day and cook up a bunch of food and sing carols and let the kids play and all. A lot of times there are family members we haven't seen since the previous year, and it's almost always the Saturday before Christmas. When I get home I'll be packing up a bunch of food (I get most of the food and Li'l Sis deals with the cabin) and my percolator and a karaoke machine and a little TV and off we go! This will be the first year in quite awhile my son has been able to make it. Icing on the cake, I have this coming week off work for like, the first time in ten years. Yesterday afternoon I picked my son up at the Greyhound station in Milwaukee, and then we drove down to downtown Chicago where I work. We parked the truck and headed out to look at the downtown Christmas lights and such. (We got into town right around 5pm, so just after dark) We walked about five miles past the big city Christmas tree, through the old Marshall Field's store, (now Macy's, drat it) past Wrigley tower, and up through the shopping district to Water Tower. Then we had dinner up there. Water Tower Place is a huge indoor shopping mall, beautifully decorated - but Water Tower is the old 1800's city water works, and dates to before the Chicago fire in the 1840's. It is a real fairy tale looking place. They have an art gallery inside on of the buildings that's no longer used. They also have horse and carriage rides leaving from right there. Merry Christmas, all of you!!! With love, Dan Water Tower:

And Chicago is absolutely stunning at Christmas!! Esp. downtown and the great lakes. I have been to the WaterTower!, tho never at Christmas time. It's a bustling city this time of year, no doubt!! You & your family be very careful, tho you aren't going far, there is some nasty weather headed our way! I am so happy for you, too Dan having some time off with your family. That makes it so awesome to be able to slow down and enjoy it all.
Soak up those luvs! (& then write about it!!) lol
MERRY CHRISTMAS, Poets!!

Thanks for all the love and support!! You guys rock! I ended up having probably the best Christmas to date. You're right Dan, those things were just temporary...I just gotta keep reminding myself "this too shall pass" but often times it is quite difficult to do. I am managing and did have a great Christmas. I was able to get a few things for my boyfriend and he loved it all. I even made him a homemade gift...a pillow with a picture of us sewn on. That one was his favorite! And he also told me that it didn't matter what I got him for Christmas as long as he had me...(that was where i broke down into tears of not sadness but happiness...i think i'll keep him around. haha) Thank God for wonderful friends and family! I hope you all enjoyed yourselves and had a wonderful Christmas too! Have a good new year!!!

Solace, your post made my day!!!! I am so happy that you had a wonderful, memorable Christmas with heart, soul & love!!!! Awesome & thank you for telling us about it, too! The pillow gift idea is terrific! Everyone have a SAFE & FUN New Year... for me, I am playing music tonite and will be home with my kiddos & family IN having a family game night with all of my boys on New Years Eve. If all goes well, it will be my last New Year's Eve at home for awhile, so I am going to enjoy that luxury! Typically it is a big night for live music!

New Year for Saren & I looks to be a quiet one at home. Not my usual choice, but this year it just seems best. I think we are heading into something different in the collective soul this year, I feel the breath of change on the hackles back of my neck, torn between lover's nip and monster's bite. The forces of Love and Fear are humming at a fever pitch, and on a hair trigger. You all know which one I hope wins, and may it be glorious and true for all of us and each of you.
